Description: 'Magic Forest' is a lovely new cultivar displaying streaked variegated smears of green and brown. At times the variegation also has a very lustrous look which is often describe as silk variegation. The darker colours are a very pleasant earthy brown and combined with the various shades of green, remind us of the trees and forests that we see around us.
The plants are upright growing and will form a beautiful compact shape, developing rings of offsets around the main stem.
Although developed in Asia, we have decided to name/rename this cultivar Aeonium 'Magic Forest' and we will explain this in the comments below.
Plant Care: Easy to care for and look after. Grow in good light to maintain good form and to bring out the best colours. Over the growing period the variegation may fade slightly as the plants are actively growing, so don't be concerned by this as the variegation will return as conditions change.
Origins: One of the many variegated forms of Aeonium 'Madeira Rose' which is also known as 'Halloween' in Asia.
Comments: Also sold under the names 'Halloween Big Bang', 'Halloween Yin Yang' and 'Chocolate' (silk variegation).
This cultivar is basically a variegated form of Aeonium 'Madeira Rose' aka 'Halloween'.
Most of all the new Aeonium variegated cultivars being created, have originally been develop using a chemical procedure to bring out and develop different levels of variegation from within the plants.
This is not a new practice within the horticultural world, but it is fairly new with succulents. This is why almost over night there is suddenly hundreds of new variegated cultivars appearing on the market and in such abundance.
This particular cultivar has ended up developing variegation similar to that seen in Aeonium 'Big Bang' and as the plant itself was originally a Aeonium 'Madeira Rose' aka 'Halloween', it was at some point simply just named 'Halloween Big Bang'.
We have also seen this now described as being a hybrid between 'Halloween x 'Big Bang' which is incorrect, so we find these names somewhat misleading.
Additionally we have also seen this sold as 'Chocolate' (silk variegation). There is already a cultivar known as Aeonium 'Chocolate Rose' which is a very different plant altogether and feel using the name 'Chocolate' (silk variegation) is only going to add further confusion.
Lastly, we cannot simply use the name Aeonium 'Maderia Rose' / 'Halloween' variegate, as there are close to ten different variegated forms of 'Maderia Rose' / 'Halloween' now available and all have different variegated colours.
These are the reasons we have decided to call this beauty Aeonium 'Magic Forest'. It's also a stunning little cultivar and we think it deserves a better name than just 'Halloween Big Bang', and of which both names have already been used before.
