Description: 'Velour' is a beautiful hybrid which turns a vibrant purple & mauve colour over the summer months. Throughout winter the plants are generally green with some purple tones on the outer foliage and at certain times of the year the foliage will have a soft velvety feel, like Velour. Plants will often grow to 80cm high and unlike some of the A. arboreum varieties which tend to grow into a bare stem with all the rosettes at the top, 'Velour' will maintain a good proportion of side stems retaining a bushy habit.

Plant Care: Not much care or maintenance is needed with 'Velour' and excels when either grown in the ground or in pots. When growing some of the larger Aeonium varieties in pots, we will often add some heavy broken bricks or rocks at the bottom of the pots to act as a counter weight. There can often be a lot of weight in the Aeonium itself and counter weighting the pots stops the plants from toppling over in strong winds or when the soil dries out over summer.

Origins: A hybrid created by Jack Catlin USA. Aeonium canariense x Aeonium 'Zwartkop'

Comments: This is a sibling plant to Aeonium ‘Blushing Beauty’ and the two hybrids can often look very similar at certain times of the year. ’Velour’ is the darkest of the two, with ‘Blushing Beauty’ generally being a lot greener, particularly as the plants mature.
